Midland, Texas moves to file its first Opportunity Zone application

The Midland Development Corporation is backing an application to designate eligible Midland, Texas census tracts as Opportunity Zones under the OZ 2.0 program, following the City Council's June 23 vote to ask Gov. Greg Abbott to nominate the city's tracts. The MDC will file the application; the governor forwards nominations to the U.S. Treasury for certification, with any designation taking effect January 1, 2027. Midland County received no Opportunity Zone designations in the original 2018 round, so a designation this cycle would be the county's first.
